Located in the Recoleta neighborhood, the Floralis Generica is an impressive mobile flower-shaped sculpture built in aluminum and steel. A true paradise for instagramers!
With about 20 meters high and almost 18 tons in weight, this gigantic aluminum and metal flower emerged as a true tribute to the nature of the porteños and especially the flowers. It is located since 2002 in the United Nations Square, on Avenida Figueroa Alcorta.
This sculpture was donated by its author, the Argentine architect Eduardo Catalano, and manufactured by the Lockheed Martin Aircraft Argentina aircraft company. According to its own creator, this flower reflects the dynamism of our time, while at the same time honoring all the flowers in the world.
In addition to its monumental size, the main feature of this flower is its electrical system that automatically opens and closes the petals depending on the time of day. When the sun goes down, the flower closes emanating from its interior a red glow to be reborn open on the morning of the next day. The opening hours are at 8 in the morning and close at sunset, at a time that changes according to the season of the year. In addition this same mechanism closes the flower in the presence of strong winds, emulating the process of flowers in nature.
