The Kyoto Railway Museum features 30,000 square meters of rail fun just a 20-minute walk from Kyoto Station.
Train fans won’t know where to start: there are 53 retired trains spread over three floors. Walk through the gigantic ships to see classic steam trains, modern electric trains, and of course the lightning-fast Shinkansen. You can also walk under an old freight train to see the unique nuts and bolts that kept these mastodons going.
Can you imagine a railway museum without model trains? You have to have skill to drive these little trains. You also have a lot of interactive exhibits to satisfy your curiosity and you can even become a machinist and take command of a very realistic train simulator.
Visitors will also be able to admire the engineers working on the steam locomotives in the maintenance room. Come on, if you like trains you can’t miss it!
