Discover a house on the canals full of our feline friends, plus a lot of amazing art related to cats. Brighten someone’s day with a surprise visit to the Cabinet of Cats and admire works by great artists in a series of rooms of exquisite taste. For cat lovers it will be a perfect day.
This museum dedicated to cats is located on the first floor of the building, or piano piano, of an old mansion on the Herengracht canal. Stroll through the private collection of Bob Meijer on cat paraphernalia and admire the photos, posters and paintings with a feline theme. Bob dedicated this site to his beloved red-haired cat, John Piermont Morgan (1966-1983). Forget about the old cats, this guy was passion.
Imagine vintage armchairs, high curtains, heavy and full of color, carved wood dating back to the 17th and 18th centuries and, of course, cats. On all sides.
There are cat works by Picasso, Rembrandt, Theophile Alexandre Steinlen, Henriette Ronner Knip, Toulouse-Lautrec and many more, but to tell you the truth, chances are that you are too distracted caressing the local kittens.
